What does the Bible say about? Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?

Online dating is one of those subjects that Christians enjoy debating. In one camp, there are some who believe looking for love online betrays a lack of faith in God’s provision of a spouse. In their view, the seemingly endless lists of online profiles creates a superficial consumer mentality that undermines the sacrificial nature of Christ-centered love.
The other side counters that online dating is merely a tool God can use to bring two people together — users don’t place their faith in the matchmaking site, but in the Lord. What can be wrong with that? The arguments on both sides have merit. Like many things, online dating isn’t inherently evil or good. More often than not, the Bible offers general principles over specifics.
We can then take these big ideas and apply them to our everyday lives and the choices we make. But that process requires wisdom, discernment and guidance. Focus’ online community for young adults, Boundless , seeks to help singles navigate these issues. Through Boundless, Focus encourages intentional living and offers resources that motivate young adults to know their worth in Christ as individuals and to be open to the opportunities God may have for them.

Online dating: Letting God’s plan work out or forcing things to happen?
This is a question I received when speaking on dating the other day in a church in London. And a very ancient one. To what extent does God lead our lives and does he have a detailed plan on one side, on the other side, free will, how does that work? To what extent do we make our own choices regardless whether or not God is happy with those choices?
Does dating online mean I’m not “trusting God”? How do you navigate online dating? Because it’s not specifically mentioned in the Bible, online.
With dating sites becoming the norm, I think we should do ourselves a favor and dig into the topic of online dating especially as we head into this month typically focused on romantic love. Before we do, I have to be honest with you. Tackling the topic of online dating is a little intimidating for me. I have several really close friends that I greatly admire who stand on opposite sides of the spectrum on this issue.
Some godly friends of mine love online dating to pieces, and some godly friends are strongly opposed to it. There are also amazing Christian ministries I highly respect with competing views on the subject. The goal of this blog post is to help you think through the pros and cons of online dating and both sides of the argument.
Adventures in Dating While Christian
A majority of churches build their programs to appeal to families with small children and have eliminated many of their single groups. In the workplace, there are too many rules and bad consequences of dating other employees. Not least of all, our society has become more self-centered and geared on perfection in others making it unfortunate that when we do have a friend that sets us up on a blind date, we eliminate them before even meeting.
Should Christians use online dating services? Yes, and with gusto! Online dating doesn’t correct the well-documented imbalance of devout Christian women abundant supply to like-hearted men a paucity , but it at least widens the net for Christians seeking partners. It also reduces the need to choose between meaningful service in a region where pickings are slim, and work that may be further from one’s calling in a more populated area.
Along with these benefits, online dating does raise new dangers: a creep—a violent one, even—may be lurking behind the next click; the process over-represents certain features of a person facial appearance, for starters ; and it requires an investment of funds that perhaps could be better spent elsewhere. It would be foolish, however, to preserve the dating practices of an earlier era, even as an attempt to avoid these dangers. For instance, I’d never recommend that a modern woman do as I did.
In the mids, when I was seeing the man who became my husband, we talked on landline phones late at night when rates dropped from 25 cents per minute to 10 cents , sent just a handful of e-mails seemed impersonal , and never texted weren’t pagers mostly just for drug dealers back then? We wrote letters, too. By hand! And sent them via postal mail!
These archaic behaviors suited the olden days, but some of them seemed novel even to the generation before mine.

Since many Christians today meet online, dating apps are a new normal. Typically designed to be quick and easy to use, many of the most popular dating apps such as Tinder encourage face-value judgments based on little more than appearance and hobbies. The concern with Tinder is threefold.
